About Image to text
Getting the best results
Use a sharp, well-lit image with the text straight and filling most of the frame. Crop out backgrounds. Printed text works much better than handwriting.
Privacy and the first run
The text recognition engine runs in your browser. The first time you use it, your browser downloads the engine (about 5 MB, plus the language data) and caches it. Your image is never sent anywhere.
Your files never leave your device
Most online PDF sites upload your documents to their servers. DocuVault doesn’t. Everything happens inside your browser, so there is nothing for anyone to see, store or leak.
Check it yourself
Use a tool once, then turn off your Wi-Fi or switch to airplane mode and use it again — it still works. Developers can watch the Network tab: no file is ever sent.
Step 1
You choose a file
Your browser opens it directly from your device — like opening it in an app.
Step 2
Your device does the work
The processing code runs inside this browser tab. No server ever receives your file.
Step 3
You save the result
The new file goes straight to your downloads. Close the tab and everything is gone.
Frequently asked questions
Does it read handwriting?
Clear, neat handwriting sometimes works, but the engine is built for printed text. Expect mistakes on cursive.
Which languages are supported?
English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Arabic, Hindi, Chinese, Japanese and more. English is built in; other languages download once when you first use them.
Is my image uploaded?
No. Recognition happens on your device. Only the language data is downloaded.
