About DocuVault

DocuVault is a set of 27 free tools for PDFs, documents and data that work entirely in your browser — so your files never have to leave your device.

Why we built it

Most online PDF tools work by uploading your file to a server, processing it there and sending it back. That means copies of contracts, IDs, payslips and medical letters sit on computers you know nothing about. We thought there should be a simpler, safer option.

Today’s phones and laptops are powerful enough to do this work themselves. DocuVault sends the tool to your browser instead of sending your file to a server. It’s faster (no upload or download wait), it works offline after your first visit, and there’s nothing for anyone to leak.

How it works

  1. When you open a tool, your browser downloads the code for it from our website.
  2. When you choose a file, the browser reads it directly from your device. It’s never sent over the internet.
  3. The tool processes the file in your browser’s memory and gives you the result to save.

You can check this yourself: after using a tool once, turn on airplane mode and use it again — it still works. Developers can open the browser’s Network tab and see that no file is transmitted. You can also read our source code.

We build on respected open-source projects, including PDF.js (Mozilla’s PDF viewer, used in Firefox), Tesseract.js for text recognition, pdf-lib for editing PDFs, and SheetJS for spreadsheets.

How DocuVault stays free

Because your device does the processing, we don’t pay for expensive servers. The small cost of running the website is covered by ads. We never sell data and never look at your files — we can’t, because we never receive them. There are no paid plans, no watermarks and no usage limits.

Who we are

DocuVault is made by NexixLabs, an independent team that builds privacy-friendly web software. We also make Asset Compressor, a private image and video optimizer that also runs in your browser.
